Thursday and Friday are Impact Weather Days as shower and thunderstorm chances jump. Any thunderstorms that form will have the potential to produce heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.

Rainfall totals from Thursday through Friday should total 1" or more in most locations. Some isolated locations will pick up 2" or more!

At this point don't cancel your outdoor plans for the next two days, but be flexible and have a backup plan ready to go. The favored timing of scattered showers and thunderstorms will be during the afternoon and evening hours.

Thunderstorms will go from isolated to scattered Thursday afternoon. A few thunderstorms will continue into Thursday evening and Thursday night.

The best bet for thunderstorms on Friday is during the afternoon and evening. Not the best news with many high school football teams kicking off their season. I expect some lightning delays in parts of southeast Georgia and the Lowcountry Friday evening.

Once we reach the weekend, rain chances will become more isolated.

The tropics remain relatively quiet across the Atlantic Basin. There has not been a named storm since July 2(Colin)! Digging into the numbers the ACE(Accumulated Cyclone Energy), is way below average so far this hurricane season. In fact, this is the slowest start to a hurricane season since 1992! While the current slow start is good news, we know it only takes one storm impacting our area to make it an active season.

The chance of tropical development within the next 5 days remains relatively low. A disturbance is forecast to reach the southwest Gulf of Mexico by late this week. Right now there is a 30% chance that a named tropical system forms.

Medium to long range forecast models continue to point to a more active stretch in the tropics in late August and early September. The current lull in tropical activity may end in the next week or two.
