New Delhi: You must have enjoyed 3D cinema so far, but soon everyone will be able to take shelter in a 3D printed house. In a similar row, the Indian Army's Military Engineering Services (MES) has constructed two houses using 3D Rapid Construction Technology. The digitally constructed houses in South-Western Air Command in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, were inaugurated in the presence of Engineer in Chief Lt Gen Harpal Singh, ANI said, quoting the Indian Army officials. The construction of the houses have been completed within a month and are the first-of-its-kind structure in India. The Indian Army also released stunning photos of the newly-built quarters along with a video.

It took only 30 days to complete the houses instead of months-long construction.

The built-in areas of each house are around 700 square feet.

The Indian Army has constructed the houses in collaboration with the Chennai based start-up 'Tvasta'.

The disaster-resilient structures have been constructed with Zone-3 earthquake specifications.

Cementitious 3D construction printing (3DCP) or 3D concrete printing is a form of additive manufacturing used to construct buildings in completely new shapes which were previously not possible with traditional concrete formwork. The technique utilises a concrete 3D printer that accepts a computerised three-dimensional design file from the user and fabricates a 3D structure in a layer-by-layer manner by extruding a specialised type of concrete specifically designed for the purpose.

At first, the concrete modules are built inside a factory using the 3D Printing Technology.

The foundation is laid down, and the constructed walls have been assembled with it.

Then the final touch has been given to the houses like laying out tiles and painting.

The Indian Army took to Twitter to share images and videos of the newly constructed houses using 3D technologies. It was also shared on ANI with the caption, "How the Indian Army's Military Engineering Services constructed two houses within four weeks using the 3D Printing Technology in construction." The video shows the entire process right from the beginning to the finishing of the house.
